Honestly I do NOT like the way my house looks right now. 😦  I don’t feel like it’s decorated in a style that reflects ME – some of it does but I don’t know if my tastes are just changing or what. I feel cluttered. *sigh* Still…here it is – we’ve lived here 11 months, and I was sick for most of that on bedrest so I am just now getting around to doing the needed things. 🙂

AWESOME recipe!! February 3, 2009

Tonight we had steaks from our angel food box, this recipe and corn from the freezer. Cheapo and YUMMY!!!

Oven Broasted Veggies

2 potatoes, peeled & cubed
Carrots, halved or chopped in long slices
Really any veggies you want

Put the potatoes & carrots in a baking dish, drizzle with some EVOO and sprinkle with garlic powder, pepper & salt. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes. Pull out and add the peppers or squash or zucchini. Drizzle and sprinkle again. Bake again for 20 minutes. Pull out and sprinkle your steamed broccoli on top and then…top with shredded cheese!!! Bake until cheese is melted….these are simply FABULOUS!!!

Biiscuits, Sausage, Gravy & Scrambled Eggs or hashbrowns

(extra for DH’s breakfast through the week)

Grilled Steaks, Baked Potatoes & Roasted Rosemary veggies

Vegetable beef Soup & Cornbread

Olive Garden, honey!

Chicken Quesadillas, Chips & Homemade Salsa

Cube Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans for lupper

We typically do only two meals on Saturday – brunch at around 10:00 or so, as the boys sleep till around 8:30 on Saturday. When they get up, usually they pile up on the couch and DH reads books to them for a while. After brunch, we do whatever is needed and then we eat lupper around 4:00 pm and then if anyone is hungry before bed we get popcorn or such out.

Vegetable soupon on Wednesday will be an experiment too – my grandmother gave us 12 package of deer meat!! 1 deer sausage, 6 tenderloin, 2 cube steak. She refuses to eat meat that doesn’t come in clear packages – she also saw this deer before it was processed and can’t eat it because well…you get the idea. 🙂 I am thinking of scrambling the cube steak up – it’s sorta ground, right? If I can scramble it and mix with some hamburger from the freezer, I think it’d be good to sneak it in the soup. 🙂 Maybe. If I get the nerve.

Give me your best venison ideas, please – Ive never cooked with it!! 😀

Quiche, toast & fruit for brunch

Checking in….

OH it’s just been so busy!! I’m hoping to get pictures up this week of our stockpile – we finally got a big shelf in the garage and I’ve been moving things out onto it from their crazy homes – having it here there and everywhere made for a cluttery feeling home!! I’m working on it..just not quite ready to show pictures. 🙂

I am doing my home blessing today – and it’s cold and rainy here so I started a fire early this morning. I LOVE supplementing heat with a fire! Yes, the central will do a good job, but our electric bill was high last month and I’m working to bring it down. Put warm clothes on the kids, crank that heat down to about 65 and put the fire on! Free wood from dh’s family farm and we’re good!

Also – we found out that we’re most likely getting much less on our taxes than we expected. 😦 We usually don’t get that large of a refund, but when DH took that $100,000 buyout last year it seriously made everything drastically different! We’re going to be dipping into savings to finish paying off the house and I don’t like the idea of our savings dropping to much less than 6 months of expenses, so I’ve been busy listing things on ebay and our local email loop to try to make some extra money to help keep our savings safe!! It’s strange how I get this way, it’s not like we’re destitute, but after living in poverty for so much of my early life…it’s nice to feel secure knowing you have a little something to fall back on! Still….less than 2 months until our home is OURS and we can be completely 100% debt free!! YAY!

Need to put more wood on the fire and unload the dishwasher, then I’ll be back for MenuMonday! 😀

Cleaning…. January 28, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — handfulofquietness @ 3:58 pm

The BIGGEST responsibility in my life is God. First and foremost, my relationship with him is important. Then is my relationship with my husband. My children are third in my life. After that – it’s obviously my HOME. That’s the way I feel.  Since it’s just a BIG responsibility and a charge to me to be a “keeper at home,”  there are many duties that fall on my shoulders. My husband helps, don’t get me wrong, but that’s the exception and not the rule. A well-ordered home just sets the stage.  I’m not in any way saying that a clean home makes your life happy – many women aren’t at all.  But for me, knowing that I’ve taken care of that responsibility allows me to focus on the other main attractions – family. 🙂

With that said, I thought I’d share my “routine” if you will.  This is what I’ve implemented in the last month or so, and it is really working and working WELL! I’ve always struggled with cleaning – my mom always taught me to just clean “when it needed it.” For me though, I found myself having to devote hours at one time to clean everything – because everything often gets dirty at the same rate.

Here’s what I do:

This is what works for me! 😀 Staying on top of these things mean that I never really have to “spring clean” and my home is pretty well taken care of. Make a schedule and stick as much to it as you can – sometimes you can’t and that’s ok.
