Kroger…….and my happy tears! September 12, 2008

As you know, money is going to get really tight beginning next week. DH’s job is changing, with a 65% pay cut, but we’re paying off our house with the buyout check so it’s OK. Right now 54% of our pay goes to JUST taxes, medical insurance & tithe. Plus his drive is cut 47 miles ONE WAY!!! Wohoo!

Anyway, with all the rumours of gas prices, I went to fill up early early this morning….and btw, gas had jumped almost half a dollar by the time I got out of the grocery store.

So they didn’t have to call a manager like the other times I’ve shopped big, but they should’ve, because I saved BIG this morning!

51.42 pounds of chicken breasts
27 pounds of Ground Beef (actually had 30 but I gave one away to another woman I saw)
3 pkgs of steaks
1 gallon of milk
1 pkg coleslaw cut cabbage
1 large pkg mozz cheese
1 pkg pizza rolls
2 boxes freezer bags
8 rolls of sausage

ALL for the whopping total of……..$64.62 after tax!!!!!!!  The meat man was coming out of the back and there was nothing marked down. I just made the comment that I was too early (it was 7:30ish) and he asked what I was looking for. I said chicken & hamburger…and he said “come with me!” IT was the meat MANAGER, haha – and he marked down the pkgs to $.59/pound on the chicken, $.33/pound on the hamburger! I didn’t take ALL of the chicken, though I wanted to…but I did take all the hamburger! Then I had $5/$45 order coupon, and coupons for the rest of the things too and I paid with our store GC that we bought back in July – when you bought $300 they added 10%, so in essence we also scored an additional 10% off! so I scored BIG!!!!!!!!

All I can say is WOW! I scored a great deal a while ago on organic chicken, but this is too good! Congratulations on your husband’s job change. I am not sure if you know who Dave Ramsey is, but the way you are living seem that you do. God is really blessing your family. I am paying off our last credit card today. We still have a student loan, but it should be gone in a few months. Then we can think about the house!

    I really enjoy your blog.
